I need help IDing a song

I've got this song stuck in my head and I don't know what it is - heard it on XM a few days ago (channel 32 I think) and of course the song listed on the screen was not it. I have searched itunes, asked my kids...I even tried singing it on that song ID app. LOL Y'all are my last resort. Not sure this will be worth a tinker's damn, but here goes:
It's got an upbeat alt-rock sound. I think the chorus says "I need time on my side" and the I in time in drawn out in a twangy ish 4 count. It also says "I need you to understand".

Yeah I came up with the same one as harmonics did. Google is where I go when I have this question. Your first lyrics didn't do it but when I typed in "I need you to understand" I came to the same song as harmonics.
I've never not been able to find a song when typing lyrics into Google. 100% success rate. Just have to make sure they're correct lyrics.

Damn that harmonics for beating me to it. 
Seriously though. Google is the way to go WHENEVER you have this exact issue. It has never let me down.
