I am not high. Amarillo By Morning is about a bull and not a cowboy.

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone.
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on.
When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I'll be bucking at the county fair.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo I'll be there.

They took my saddle in Houston, broke my leg in Santa Fe.
Lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way.
Well I'll be looking for eight when they pull that gate,
And I'm hoping that judge ain't blind.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's on my mind.

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone.
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on.
I ain't got a dime, but what I got is mine.
I ain't rich, but Lord I'm free.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be.

Interesting theory, but I doubt bulls have wives, and if he broke his leg in Santa Fe, he probably would have been a t-bone by the time he reach San Antone

It's from the perspective of a bull. Maybe he had his reg somewhere and thought of her as his wife and he later lost his side piece.

They don't use saddles in bull riding.

That's what I thought at first but maybe this bull had a saddle to use in his off time and someone took it.

Why dose the lyric say ""I'll be bucking at the county fair?"

Does a rider buck?

I apologize in advance for blowing your mind.

The bull is looking for 8 because he needs this a-hole off of his back in 8 seconds.

If you can make it past the lost my wife and a girlfriend line, which you can't, the theory is blown by looking for eight.

The bull needs him off before eight. If not, he's a bum bitch. The rider is looking for eight.

I don't think bulls volunteer for the rodeo.
