The top rated acts can command up to $1 million for a private performance - a large arena tour (insofar as they have those) can probably get close to that on a per show basis - gross, anyway, with $600k likely the ceiling per show for the more popular, mid-sized indoor/outdoor pavilion or basketball arena tours.

I'd pay QOTSA 75k to play at my wedding. That would be legit.

Do the math. Average arena band sells around 12,000 tickets, average ticket price around $75, $900,000 in gross sales. The vast majority of ticket sales are going to the band. The venue makes their money on alcohol sales, parking, etc.

The overhead for a show is staggering though. Not to mention the Eagles (at least at one time) are managed by Irving Azoff, the tightest SOB in the business. His acts don't even allow the band to have front row seats as comps for family or friends. Old Irving don't play. LOL

That's what I mean by "staggering" overhead. The cost to move a band, crew and management alone is insane.

Also got to thinking, Jimmy Buffett always has top notch musicians in his Coral Reefer Band. I would guess he has to pay generously for this?
