How many serious songwriters on here?

what is your approach? how do you market? how far do you go on demos?

Learn every instrument yourself while growing up, that way, while recording..you dont have to depend on flakes. You then can find musicians to play what you have written.

I get on the kit and set a groove and record it. Then off to the guitar and set up some chords. Words come eventually.
Marketing? Ask my agent. I have no idea how that part works.
There's no such thing as a demo as far as I'm concerned. I play the song for the band, they tweak on it, we record it, it's done.
