im by no means an expert guitar player, but i enjoy playing acoustic cowboy chords and singing songs around the house/church/chruch events, and have been playing a couple of epiphones for the last 10-12 years, 1 acoustic jumbo made in china solid top laminate sides, and a hummingbird, which has become my favorite the last year or so, made in indonesia. Both obviously entry level guitars.

Lately, I really have been longing for a solid wood guitar, and was sold on a Martin, and something USA made, but ive been thinking lately how much importance i should put on a "made in USA, acoustic. it seems like so many of these guitars within the 700-1000 dollar range with solid top and sides/back are now overseas imports. What say the Music Board?

I played an Epiphone Inspired by Hummingbird today at GC and it sounded pretty damn close to my Gibson Hummingbird. I was very impressed. Now I also played an Epiphone Hummingbird Pro cutaway and it looks nice but I could definitely hear the difference in how much better the Inspired by is.

It depends on the brand and the factory, but typically, at least with respect to electric guitars:
China < Indonesia < Korea < Mexico/Japan (it really depends on the brand and model as to which country is better) < America

For playing? None. It's about the sound and action, playability in general.
Buy an Epiphone Masterbilt. That's what the "inspired by Gibson" guitars are.
Watch this video, get yourself a Frontier or an Excelante

None, I prefer Eastmans to most standard series Martins these days. Eastmans are all handmade in China, great quality.

Furch's Vintage line is also really good, pretty sure they're made overseas.

I'm not a huge fan of the Epiphone stuff, it seems over built and didn't project well but that could be just the models I've played. I'm not a Gibson fan by any means.

Yamaha has some great stuff as well.

Tell us more.
You probably need an almost perfect social credit score to work on those guitars. Right? Probably so dedicated that you sleep on a blanket beside the scroll saw, and take turns every 12 hours with your relief.
You know it's got to be good, when the builders are completely endorsed by the CCP.
frick China. Only buy their stuff used, at junk price.

?

They're great guitars, also come with a lifetime warranty, much like a Martin, if purchased new.

Eastman isn't like other Chinese builders, they're said to treat their employees very well

Bourgeois is doing a lot of work with them as well.

As for politics, it's nearly impossible not to consume products that are manufactured in China these days but I understand if you choose not to.

That said, if we're just talking guitars, Eastmans are just as good as a Martin, in my opinion.

That's a very handy name.

I must denote that when I say I think they're just as good as a Martin, I'm referring to both craftsmanship and materials.

The sound is obviously different and reminds me more of a Collings.

The new Bourgeois Touchstone line is produced as a partnership between both builders and is intended as a "middle ground" line between Eastman's standard line and Bourgeois' boutique builds. They compete with the price point of a new Martin.

I personally have never purchased either a new Martin or Eastman but have owned several used models from both and have played dozens of models from both builders.

This is right, but Indonesia can surprise you depending on brand. I needed a new beater/spare bass and after reading a lot, I got a Harley Benton enhanced bass for about $250 (just over $300 with shipping).
While this is not nearly as nice as my US Fenders, it’s as good or better than a Mex Fender and blows the other Asian stuff away. I was shocked by how good this thing is at the price point.
Ash body
Bound and blocked maple neck with rosewood
High mass bridge
P and MM pickups

That's fine.
Your Chinese guitars are still worth 100 bucks.

I don't know, I've only ever put one up for sale and it went for $1300.

Yeah, keep at it.
My 100 buck offer will stand, unless the economy goes south, then we have to drop that down to 25 bucks for chinese crap.

I'm just a fan of good guitars, regardless of brand/builder, price, or any of the other pretensions surrounding an instrument.

I like big, boomy traditional dreadnoughts that project well so that obviously plays into my preferences quite a bit.

My go to guitars currently are a Martin D18 Custom Shop and a D28 herringbone style guitar that was built literally 30 minutes from my house by a local luthier.

I feel that Eastman gets a bad rap, especially by people who have never even owned/played one simply because they're manufactured in China. That said, I can't think of any other Chinese built guitar that I'd recommend, a lot of folks like Blueridge but they don't really appeal to me.

However, if someone chooses to write off a particular builder without even knowing anything about them, that is their prerogative and really only hurts them in the end.

Hey man, you're all into cheap labor, and think it's fine, as long as you get a good deal.
Go with it.
Better take my 100 dollar offer now.
