Thursday night I've always liked their sound. Tickets are cheap too. I'll be there with earplugs on.

Is it just me or have more of tge washed up, late 90s/early 2000s grunge-esque bands been playing less at The Varsity and more at the Texas Club lately? Not complaining, just wondering if this is a recent trend.

Sunburn was a good album.

They aren't going to compete with the Varsity for LSU student audience. So they are going after more of the 25-40 crowd. The country music fan base isn't large enough to keep the club filled every night. Might as well expand your audience with a wider variety of music styles. And the Texas Club has been doing this for years, hosting aged rockers and blues acts.

The lead singer Brett Scallions is the only original member left, and even he was gone while in a resurrected Doors project.

correct.
and im skeptical of any new material as hes not the primary (or a good) writer -- he has always been an entertaining front man, and the high point of their live show though.
id still catch them and bet they would generally be entertaining.

Texas Club has always pulled in shows from rock, alt-rock, blues, etc.
The first time I saw Gov't Mule was in 2005 at the Texas Club for $20

My inside source tells me they're getting the lead singer of Staind to come back and open up for Fuel (plus some other surprise fan favorite shitty early 2000s alt rockers!) - Calling it Bayou Douche Fest 2016. Excited for my city
