I honestly think I've only seen 1 show at the Varsity. And that was Jerry Jeff Walker sometime in the mid 90's.

So I guess that would be my favorite concert.

Meat Puppets, October 30 1989, first rock show the Varsity ever had.

I went to the R.E.M. show at the PMAC that night and there was an offer that you could get in for a dollar afterward with your ticket stub. I had seen R.E.M. a few times before and was disappointed in the show that night. However, this was my first time seeing the Meat Puppets and they blew the roof off. Fantastic performance.

The Varsity still had movie seats in place and there was no bar built yet. They had a makeshift lemonade stand-looking thing where they were selling keg beer.

Turnpike in 16 and in 17. Packed both times. Charley Crockett opened for them in 17.

I had somehow forgotten about this one when I responded. It is definitely at the top.

Sucks that I was too young and had to miss that one.

I don't think anyone would've figured that System of A Down would ever get so big. That was a great show.

I never would have guessed Incubus would have gotten so big. That was before they completely changed their sound.

First time I heard Sugar, I figured they would be huge... they checked all the boxes at the time to make it big.

Nice. I saw him at University of Montana a long time ago and in Atlanta at GaTech the night LSU beat TN in their second SECG matchup. Went to game and had to leave before end to make show. Then at Variety Playhouse. All great.

To answer OP, I've seen some great stuff at Varsity. I remember when they first opened and Dave Matthews did a free show there not too long afterward. Seems like BTE played there every other week.

I'll have to jog my memory. I don't think I've been there since 1997. Some fuzzy memories: Squeeze, L7, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Blind Melon, i seem to recall Black Crowes there.

The Luscious Jackson show was surprisingly great. I was also at the previously mentioned Dio and Cult concerts. No one has mentioned Warrant... But reading this thread makes me realize how much I can't remember. I went to dozens of shows at the Varsity, yet am struggling to name four bands. Fun times.
