Zeppelin II is vastly underrated as a cover for sure. Got to add:

know the Pig Destroyer cover is meant to be a joke, but Prowler in the Yard is seriously one of the best grindcore records I have ever heard.

My favorite grind album ever.

That "Stephen Hawking-esque" opening is just splendid. It instantly caught my attention. Too bad the artwork fails to accurately reflect the brilliance of this record.

The story behind that Mayhem cover is pretty disturbing. Euronymous discovered Dead's body in the band's cabin, and before informing the cops of the suicide he just decided to take a picture of the gruesome scene.

He also saved pieces of his skull and ate his brain.

Then what Varg did to Euronymous. Black Metal from the early 90s was great. Also the Swedish influence with bands like bathory..fricking awesome.

I think the rumor is that he made necklaces out it and gave it to musicians he deemed worthy.

That 2nd wave of BM was nuts. Between the murders and the church burnings and whatnot.

Being somewhat of an amateur music historian and a headbanger I love reading or studying about the black metal scene.

However, when it comes to my musical preferences I always opted for less blasphemous lyrical content. I much prefer early Swedish death metal (not really In Flames, Tranquility, or Soilwork) because of the musical complexities.

Yep. Nowadays it's sorta a parody of its self. When gaahl and king were in Gorgoroth, I think that was some of the last true black metal. Gaahl and frost on drums..can't go wrong.

...because I've seen other works by the artist who did the sculpture. Life size installations. "Radioactive Cats" is my fave.

Honestly, I'm not that familiar with their work. I never really gave Storm of the Light's Bane a chance despite its praise. Most of that has to do with the fact that it comes with the black metal tag.

That's always been a line I have been too hesitant to cross as a listener.

He has the most thunderous tom tone I've ever heard. His drumming on Nemesis Divina is spectacular.
