It’s hilarious millennial hipsters act like they hate them based off of one line in an overrated cult film.

I will agree that they’re talented musicians. I don’t care for their style of music or pretentious lyrics though.

In Winslow Arizona
Such a fine sight to see

It’s a girl my Lord
In a flat bed Ford
Slowing down to take a look at me.”

Huh?

You’re apparently a Dylan fan and don’t notice the irony in what you said, I suppose (and I like Bob Dylan).

To be fair, that's Jackson Browne. I think Frey added only, "It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me."

This was because J.D. Souther and Frey lived upstairs from Browne while he was writing songs. For example, J.D. Souther says if he never hears the opening to Doctor My Eyes again, it will be too soon. For Take it Easy, Frey liked it, but Browne couldn't finish it. So, he went downstairs to help him finish the damn thing so he would move on to play something else.

Good times...

I'm not millennial, nor a hipster and I've never seen all of The Big Lebowski. The Eagles suck.

It’s a shame that that movie ruined all the real reasons for saying the eagles suck and now everyone just thinks you’re quoting Lebowski. Eagles sucked grande balls well before that frickin movie came out. Up there with Springsteen in terms of massive overratedness.

I don't know if you can blame Lebowski for everyone, but start any thread about them and it typically winds up on the first page.

I get that not every band is for everyone, music is wonderfully subjective that way. But if you can't appreciate well thought out lyrics sung with some of the best sounding harmonies ever recorded in rock music then I don't know what to tell you. Coupled with phenomenal guitar work throughout the catalog and it's a band I can listen to all day.

I also see people talk about Henley or Frey being an a-hole, well there aren't many bands without at least one.

Always been a great live band too.

This is objectively bullshite

You might not like their music, but they were extremely talented and influenced a lot of people. Their live shows were fantastic.

I’m a huge fan, and was at the show last night. Fourth time seeing them live.

But in fairness, something like “The Last Resort” from “Hotel California” IS a bit pretentious. It’s Henley virtue signaling decades before the term existed.

Call it pretentious if you want, and I don't agree, but it's a fantastic song with a great vocal performance.

I probably should have elaborated. A lot of their radio hits like Take It Easy are cringeworthy to me because they’re overly simple and lack depth. On songs like Hotel California and The Last Resort however, they’re criticizing wealth and American culture. The irony of those lyrics is that they’ve directly benefited and accumulated millions from that culture they’re criticizing. It comes across as insincere and pretentious. Perhaps the biggest thing to me is that authentic rock music is threatening. No matter how hard they tried, there is nothing threatening about the Eagles.
