I don't love it and I'm a DBT fan...I'm still trying to figure out why ardent and true Southerners feel that the Confederate Battle Flag must be removed and wiped away completely...ugly or not..it is a part of our history...I know that they have always been a political band, but if this whole entire album is a big liberal hoorah...I wont be partaking....stop with the white guilt and just write like you used to Mike...where is Zip City and Carl Perkin's Cadillac?

i wont sidetrack into this but whether or not you AGREE with it, i think you can understand arguments for not hanging it on govt buildings (or really in general). like i said, not trying to debate the merits, but i dont the other side is all that mystifying here

its one song. i imagine not every cut will be on this topic. just like theyve addressed plenty of old south topics/culture/politics.

I don't generally listen to Hood songs and he is by far the angrier of the two. That may be why I don't notice it as much.

Become?

Did no one listen to Southern Rock Opera, which is pretty darn political? How could you not know the band's politics after that record, particularly concerning the flag and other Southern iconography?

Ain't never gonna change.

This.

I'm a huge DBT fan. Will continue to be.

Every time I've seen them live they aren't shy about their politics.

If you follow Jason Isbell (yes I know he's solo) on Twitter, he has gone through several phases where he will insult "conservatives" quite harshly. I mean downright insulting, which is pretty standard for a Prog.

Like all music, and I've stated this before, as someone who is a political Indy (Social Lib, Fiscal Conservative), I'm well aware that many of the artists HATE me. They will take my money, but at the end of the day, they are Progressives and, well, we see what Progressives do to their enemies.

So be it. Such is life.

I'll buy the record, jam out, pay good money to see them, and will just cover my ears when they whine about how awesome Obama and Hillary are.

They have been underwhelming the 3 times I've seen them live. Very unprofessional and drunk the last time I saw them and the sound was super shitty.

Tornadoes is a really good song by them. I don't believe it has any political message either.

I don't agree with hanging it on government buildings i.e. flying it on top of the capitol building in Columbia...that is just wrong...but Confederate monuments are ok in my book..it only makes sense...that's what they are...Confederate monuments...we are in the South...it's a huge part of what makes us who we are and basically we wouldn't be the same if that period of time had not gone down the way it did....I am far from a racist...I have a yard full of kids of all different colors playing at my house damn near every day...if they didn't feel comfortable at my house...they wouldn't come...but they do...cause its a non-issue in my home...my blonde haired white kids just see them as friends and regular people... they have been raised that way...but that doesn't mean I'm going to be ashamed of who I am and where I came from as a Southern white man...Cooley has got some serious white guilt going on evidently...I don't

from what I gather its a themed album just like many of their other ones...this is just a taste...and yes they have addressed those issues...but never this blatantly and in response to events that are as fresh as these are...

I will give it a listen...and if its just Cooley crying about his white guilt the whole time...i'll just listen to older DBT stuff like I always do...I've said it b4 and I'll say it again...they aren't as good since Jason left anyway

I follow Isbell's Twitter and his progressive/liberal ideals do not come across as douche imho...so much so that I can really just look over them...

his talent level and awesomeness is what makes this possible for me...Cooley is the worst song writer of the three and has the worst voice...so when he cries in his beer about his white guilt...im kind of like dude...you need to stick to what you do best..and that is pen songs that play to your strengths and leave the politics alone...

Ok...Hood has the worst voice and Cooley writes better...both pale in comparison to JI though...on both accounts...and guitar playing...

OK.

While I certainly do love some Isbell, Ghost To Most and Carl Perkins' Cadillac are among their best songs.
