Meh. Vince is what he is - you either like his voice or you don't. He wasn't an incredibly strong singer, but serviceable.
Nikki was a decent bass player, but unspectacular, IMHO. He was the driving force behind the songwriting, particularly the music but a lot of lyrics, too. If you don't like the songs, you hang that on Nikki. I found some of them quite catchy.
But Mick and Tommy were the real deals. They could have played for a lot of the bands of the era and been upgrades, particularly Tommy.

Great guitar players and a penchant for writing catchy songs, sounds pretty talented to me

Singular. Mick was the guitar player.
Just speaks volumes that a little guy like that, with a little guitar, could make all that noise by himself.

they were at the right place during the right time.

mars has never gotten his due credit when it comes to their music. he came up with some fantastic riffs. never overplayed & always played for the song.
live is where his gift came through.
his transitions from playing rhythm to lead & back were as smooth as those that are considered virtuosos. he's the only member that never pursued any other project during his time with motley crue. always was focused on their music.
the new material he's working on with john corabi sounds good.
as for the band, none were stellar musicians. but put them together and they clicked.

I mean.... talent on par with Mozart or talented, for a rock band? They wrote catchy songs that were in-tune with what was popular during their era and successfully toured the world playing them live. I'd say they were talented. As far as talent as individual instrumentalists, they had a good guitar player and a very good drummer.

Nikki Sixx is a great pop songwriter. He can crank out hooks in his sleep, and that's a real underrated skill. Sure, there's a formula involved, but it's hard to write earworms, and he had a gift for it. I mean, I hate Crue and their entire genre, but I can recognize his songwriting talent.
The rest of them suck and would be pumping gas today if it weren't for his ability to write hit songs.

I was a big crue fan. As more time passes, I really can't listen to anything after shout. The "whoa... yeah" formula worked at the time, but not so much now. The first two albums are great with little filler. Can't say the same for any that followed.
No single member would be considered for their respective mt rushmore, but they were good together.

First album feels a little more punk/L. A. 80's vibe as the years go by. Which I like.

Helter Skelter. I rest my case.

Of course they did. You may or not like them (I don´t), but of course they did.
Like journeymen baseball players who filled out a roster, but never did anything but maybe a memorable game or so.

Pretty much the same. I like Wild Side as a song though.

That one is my favorite. It is an assault on the senses. I alway liked Motley Crue for the most part but they veered into metal too much for my liking. I always liked a classic rock sound more than a metal sound. I much prefer a Van Halen or AC/DC song to Metallica or Motley Crue.

Tommy Lee did. Hell of a drummer.

Did they have talent??? Have you seen the Pam Anderson/Tommy Lee video. 13 inch cork. That't talent.
