Prove me wrong.

Look, Mastodon is great, but Deafheaven's current output, both live and studio, is more diverse and progressive than Mastodon's.

Vocals are terrible can't hold a candle to Mastodon.

I like some unclean vocals in metal, whatever core you'd like to call it (i.e. Code Orange, August Burns Red, etc.), but Deafheaven is unbearable to listen to. I can barely get through a minute of each one I've heard.

Deafheaven is very derivative of Hella, far more noiserock than metal.

I think they fall more into prog metal or metal-gaze, their shows have a lot of spaced-out portions and improvisational playing.

The singer is so awful, though.

It's like Hella and EITS had buttsecks on acid and had a retarded chumbaby that grew up inspired by shitty black metal and screamo.

ETA - why don't you just call them post-screamo?

Saw them open up for Carcass a few months ago at the Varsity in BR. Didn't think they were very good, the bass player looked loaded on heroin or something, was kind of nodding off half the time.

"Hey guys, watch me tremolo strum this weird chord for nine minutes, and can you check and see if my reverb will go up any higher?"
