Just got home from this show. What a major disappointment. It was a one man acoustic set. While he was very good, this is not what I wanted to see. I saw him about 8 years ago in Houston with a full bad and found it to be an amazing show. Too bad this one wasn't.

Anyone else went? Thoughts?

That was one of the best shows I've seen. I don't know how in the hell you were disappointed... That was my 5th time seeing him tonight. I've seen him with the band three times and solo now twice. Tonight was one hell of a performance. "It takes a lot to know a man" was the stand out song of the night. Whole crowd was floored (except for you? )

Although he wasn't as chatty as he was in previous shows I've seen him play.

Eta: if you've kept up with him at all you'd know he hasn't played with a live band since 2007.

and he was phenomenal... 16 songs, 2+ hours...

I thought the show was incredible as usual.

I think the one man act is perfect for him. Some of those songs really call for a stripped down, intimate arrangement that lets his rich vocals and lyrics shine. And I find his solo shows are still very dynamic with his looping, electric effects, additional instruments, crowd involvment, etc. He really does a lot to keep it interesting. And honestly, one of my favorite parts of the night was the last song "Cannonball", which was completely unplugged and the crowd sung along softly in background. "Then Go" was a great bust-out and the setlist was great overall.

If I have any complaint about the show, it was the stupid people talking during quiet songs or singing along way off key. Lot of drunk women there, some who could barely stand. I saw him earlier this year in Portland at a venue about three times the capacity of The Civic and you could hear a pen drop during the quiet songs. I guess part of the issue is New Orleans and people are usually drunk.

Thank God he didn't do that long-arse story before "Trusty and True".

I'd much rather see a guy with his acoustic and vocal ability alone than filled with clutter.

yeah, i've heard it once. in houston. didn't need to hear it again. come to think of it, I don't think he really told one single story all night.

great setlist though... "then go" was special.

This was the worst. Some drugged up Bohippians were behind me causing a ruckus, so I finally asked them if they would kindly go overdose somewhere. One of the girls was shocked at my suggestion.

I thought he was very good, but I much prefer a band. I like a few acoustic solo songs, but not an entire set. Plus many of his songs have great depth to them that is missing without the full band. It probably would've been more enjoyable if it were not standing room only. Mellow sets don't combine well with that situation.

were you off to the left side facing the stage? that group in the middle was just plain awful. drunken mess. the one tall woman fell down trying to go to the restroom.

but with damien, i thought the setlist and arrangements were great last night. especially when he sang to the crowd with no mic. very special night. I miss the band (and lisa) but those two entities aren't coming back so this is what we're left with. still amazing hearing the songs stripped down.

I wish he would have done cheers darling, but we got the professor and then go. then go is a *rare* song to be played live. he played accidental babies and grey room in houston back in august. those two were great, but i liked getting different songs this go around.

I was to the center right. There were multiple groups apparently then

What we had last night were a bunch of Look-At-Me narcissistic fools that were there just so they could post their selfies on facebook and proclaim how awesome they were for being there and that they are bigger fans than everyone else. Their like count-meter is probably broken with all of their adoring facebook fans clicks today.

Meanwhile they never watched the show and knew one song
