As a die hard Tool fan I never thought I'd give Chevelle props for being anything more than a wannabe Tool band, but on their latest album they seem to have found a unique sound that no longer rips off anyone.

In my opinion, they're playing some of the most interesting rock right now, especially considering rock has been incredibly dull for about 15 years.

I like their new sound and will give them full credit for being persistent enough to find a unique sound. Good for Chevelle.

You could maybe say their first album sounds a bit like Undertow but other than that I don't hear much of a Tool comparison in their music.

Maybe I should clarify: Chevelle's singer is a Maynard ripoff, but on this last album he's come into his own and discovered a vocal sound that is (in my opinion) unique.

I can still hear Maynard, but he's taking it a totally different direction than before.

I very much like Chevelle's new album.

Yeeaaahhhh no. Are they similar genres, sure.

Point #1 stands on its own. Fantastic album, more straight rock.metal focused than Maynard's general creativity. They went more mainstream after that early album, and never sounded that grundgey through Sci Fi Crimes.

La Gargola was alright, haven't heard Corridor yet.

Looking forward to listening to it. Shameful metaphors is probably my favorite Chevelle songs and one of my favorite songs of the 2000s

I loved chevelle growing up. Still a big tool fan. I've never thought of chevelle as a tool knockoff...because they sounds NOTHING like them.

Never agreed with the MJK/Tool comparisons, but I did just listen to the new CD and it was really good.

Chevelle's only good album was their very first one. Then they became overproduced garbage

Chevelle openly cites Tool as being one of their biggest influences in music. I think it's more of a compliment than a ripoff of them.

So what? That's not what's being discussed in this thread.

I mean, I agree with you. But this latest Chevelle album may be as good as anything APC produced.
