Journey in the 1970s: great group. The song "Lights" has long been a favorite.

1980s Journey: too pop for my tastes. The same sort of devolution into insipid pop can be seen in Chicago, who prior to 1975 was a tremendous rock and roll ensemble, then started becoming more pop and deteriorated into a nauseating caricature of themselves.

As I've told everyone on PT, I've sold my own line of original handmade jewelry on the SF sidewalks since 1972. One day a guy with long hair down to his butt came up to my display and started trying on my sterling silver rings.

He was with 4 or 5 other guys and after spending about 15 minutes trying rings on he found one he really liked that fit him perfectly. For the next ten minutes he stood there trying to decide whether he was going to buy it.

Finally, he said he'd think about it and walked away with his buddies. A minute or two later he came running back to my display and said he decided that he wanted to buy the ring.

After buying the ring, he walked away extremely happy with his purchase.

As soon as he left, the woman who was selling next to me asked, "Did Steve Perry from Journey buy the ring he was looking at?"

I asked dumbly, "Was that Steve Perry?"

The woman said, "That was Steve Perry who was just looking at your rings and those were his band mates from Journey who were hanging out at your display with him."

I wasn't certain if she was correct or not but I remembered that I owned an old Journey album so when I got home I found the album and sure enough the front cover was a photo of the long haired guy who bought my ring standing with all of the guys who were hanging out at my table.

Needless, to say I've been a big fan of Steve Perry and Journey ever since.

I listened to them a lot back in the day.

Feeling That Way/Anytime came on the other day, and I cranked it up. Good song.
