Posted this on the Tech Board but thought maybe some serious music lovers would have some advice:

So if there are any car audiophiles on this board, I have a question:

I just bought a brand new F150 and the base audio system sucks. I went to a high end car stereo place in Metairie and the guy recommended this setup:

4 Focal flax series 6.5" door speakers
JL TW3 10" sub
JL Audio 5-channel amp

With parts and custom box and labor it comes to about $3000. That's a bit steep for my taste but I keep thinking of pulling the trigger. Two questions:

A. I'm not familiar with Focal. Is this setup worth the cash?
B. Would you recommend a setup similar but closer to $1500 by a shop in the NOLA area?

I'm sure you can get much better than 1 JL 10 for that price. You can buy two Orion 10's or two kicker competition 10's for cheaper than that. Orion is my personal favorite but they are harder to find. I think that place in Metarie has them.

As for the Focal Flax 6.5's I have never heard of them? I have these and I love them.

Thanks man. I'm not looking to shake houses as those days are long gone for me. I just need to replace the four door speakers and was hoping to add a small amp/sub behind the rear seat. I'm 38 but I still enjoy good clean sound- crisp clear highs and deep non-muffled lows.

The problem I have now is I have an Ecoboost Lariat, which means the stereo produced fake engine rumble when I floor it. (I know- it's ridiculous, but I really hardly notice it) Supposedly this causes a huge pain in the arse to install any amplified systems.

F**k.

The Focals are good speakers. To me they sound better on rock music than anything else. You can actually hear the notes being played and they are clear.
I have the cheaper versions of them $299.99.I need to adjust my amp some to get a little more power, because my factory Toyota touchscreen only goes so loud. I know they can sound a little better with a touch more power.
I`m sure you will be happy with them once you get the set up you want.
