Never really been a music person but I am getting tired of listening to the same classic rock stations in the car every day. Looking for some new tunes preferably in the soft rock/indie rock/adult contemporary genre.

I have trolled this board a bit to see what people are listening to. Here are some artists I have sampled:

Future Islands - A bit too weird and electronic for me, although I did like A Dream of You and Me and Ran

War on Drugs - I really like their newer stuff, the songs Under the Pressure and Holding On. Although I feel like most of their stuff is a bit too soft and whiny. I want music that is more upbeat and happy, not music that is depressing and emotional sounding

Manchester Orchestra - Like my issue with WOD, a bit too soft and whiny. I want something a bit more upbeat

New Pornographers - I like their stuff, especially High Ticket Attractions and Dancehall Domine

Hope this gives you all an idea of what I might be looking for

Dr. Dog might fit parameters of your OP

Twin Peaks is a bit more lo-fi than your OP might be trying to convey but is a fun band for what it is

I'd suggest White Denim. Albums: Stiff, Corsicana Lemonade, and D are all damn good.

Try some Boy and Bear from their Harlequin Dream album (Southern Sun, Bridges, Old Town Blues), Local Natives (Who knows who cares, Airplanes, Ceilings, Dark Days). Not really new but also try Foals and Lord Huron.

Soft Rock
- Fleet Foxes. Start with their self titled. All their other stuff is good.
- Dan Auerbach
- Mac DeMarco
- Peter, Bjorn, and John(similar to New Pornographers)
- Borken Social Scene - Hug of Thunder is new album. Their S/T is their best IMO.

Indie Rock
- Growl
- Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
- Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial

If you want something new that still has that classic sound that you like, try:
- The Sheepdogs
- Black Pistol Fire
- Har Mar Superstar - Bye Bye 17

If Manchester Orchestra wasn't upbeat enough, try Crash Kings. Another incredible one is Durand Jones & the Indications. Nathaniel Ratcliff might also be worth a listen.

For some local bands starting to tour regionally, look up Particle Devotion, Humble Kind, Burris, and Minos the Saint.
