Definitely one of my favorite bands. Favorite album is probably Look-a-Py Py. I just got the self-titled album on orange vinyl. Sounds great.

Criminal that they have not been voted into the RNR HOF. The epitome of the New Orleans' sound. Also put on some great live shows. Too bad they morphed into the Neville Bros (way to MOR for my tastes). With Leo Nocentelli having moved back to NO, hopefully we will get some additional live shows from them.

Their influence is everywhere.

From James Brown to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

An iconic band. I've been more exposed to music that was influenced by them then I have been to their actual music.

the albums they played back-up on, is also one hell of a list. Dr. John's Desitively Bonnerroo; Robert Palmer's Sneaking Sally; Labelle's Lady Marmelade to name a few.

I just read they toured with the Stones in the 70's.

I didn't know that.

Incredible.

Probably the most underrated and under appreciated bands of modern time.

Without the Meters, Funk would not have been the same.

Look at all the great NOLA songs they played on. Like this one!

Lee Dorsey - Give It Up

That's just a drop in the bucket.

The Stones opened their mid-70s tour at the Maravich Center. Played 2 shows and the Meters opened for both.

They were years ahead of their time. A sensational admixture of rock and roll, jazz and proto-funk.

The Funky Meters played Athens Georgia Theatre in 96. I worked there at the time and out of all of the bands and performers I got to meet, they were the musicians I was most excited to mingle with. When their bus showed up at about 5pm for a 9pm show, I was one of only 3 employees there. I went and unlocked the stage side door and the first guy to walk in was Art Neville. I was in charge of setting up the backstage room with food and drinks and got to spend several hours just hanging out around them. Didn't talk as much with the band members as I did with other bands who came through because ....what the hell do you small talk with Art Neville and GP Jr. about? They put off a coolness vibe that makes you feel awkward. I never had that issue with other bands like DMB or Colonel Bruce, etc..

Incredible band.

Seeing George and Ziggy from The Meters along with Ivan Neville play with RHCP at Jazzfest is one of my favorite musical memories.

Listenable for the rhythm section alone. Underrated outside of Louisiana/NOLA, IMHO.
