What does the board think about Bing Crosby?

Do you think he would make it in the music industry of today?

It seems folks today favor the high notes and lighter voices.

But Bing had such an impressive baritone voice that you rarely hear today.

Back when real men were men and sang like they had a pair. Bing is my favorite Christmas artist.

Crosby was always great, but I prefer his pre-1940s output, which was often more jazz-tinged. Recordings like his version of "Some of These Days" (1932), or even going back to his Whiteman period.

Ditto his movies, which could be pretty wacky, like "We're Not Dressing" (1934). I've always particularly liked "Rhythm on the Range" (1936) and "Waikiki Wedding" (1937). His first starring movie, "The Big Broadcast" (1932) is an old favorite that I first saw on tv as a teenager. Full of insane touches, and also featured not just Burns and Allen, but a number of then-popular musical radio stars like The Boswell Sisters and Cab Calloway and such. There's a bonkers scene where Crosby, despondent over a romantic breakup, decides to commit suicide by gas in his apartment, and Stu Erwin joins in on a suicide pact with him, leading to them having some crazy hallucinations. So many of those early-1930s comedies and musicals are real jaw-droppers. Gloriously nutty.

What if Andy Williams never existed? Would Bing be the Bing we've known?

He’d get canceled for beating his kids with a sack of oranges.

No. His drug addict son wrote a book and was told by the publisher that the uglier the rumors the more it would sell. Completely refuted by his non-drug addict daughter.

I only knew of Bing as an old man with his wife and second batch of kids, but What I came to appreciate about him was how he could swing in his early stuff.

Bowie was a well established superstar when they teamed up.

They teamed up in 1977.

Space Oddity was 1969

Arguably his best album
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was 1972

Ziggy Stardust Era was 1972 until 1975

Young Americans album, including the song Fame, was released in 1975.

1975 the Song The Golden Years was released

In 1976 he starred in the film, The Man Who Fell to Earth

He had released 11 albums by the time he sang with Bing and his 12th album came out a month later.
