Slovak was the RHCP guitarist. He created the riffs and sound of what the band was all about in the first place. Coming in at honorable mention was Frusciante, who came close to that sound and even added a tad bit more of a rocker edge to it.

I would love to have been able to hear where the original 4 members with Irons on drums and Slovak on guitar could sound like today.

Frusciante is probably the better guitarist in the abstract, but Hillel is the best guitarist for that band. RHCP became something different when he died. He played this funk/punk hybrid so well that George Clinton produced one of their records. No one played quite like him, and RHCP were a better band when they were this unique outcast.

But they likely never become massively popular if Hillel lives and is still the guitarist. They'd be a well-respected niche act, maybe with a few hits in the 90s.
