I'm on my phone at work so I can't post links. He released an album called "Play" a few years ago that was almost exclusively instrumental tracks. Some amazing guitar work. Check that out.

Supreme jazz guitarist in a rock band.

Jonny Greenwood also reinvented rock guitar in the 90's and 2000's.

Nels Cline. If you've seen Wilco live, you'll understand why he's the one.

I don't like Creed at all, but Tremonti is talented. However, that has nothing to do with the fact that Jonny Greenwood did not change guitar playing. As far as your childish pseudo-snobbery, you really don't want to go there.

I have one simple question for you:

What unique guitar technique did Jonny Greenwood introduce to the world?

I like Gary Clark Jr. but he's not even close to Trucks, Mayer or Fruciante

He's not even the best technical guitarist if you compare him to Buckethead or Marnie Stern.

Best pure guitarist - Surjan Stevens
Most overrated - Matt Bellamy of muse
Most fun : Jay Reatard, RIP
Technical: Buckethead, Marnie Stern or Tom Morello
Guy I'd want as frontman: Ty Segall or Jack White

I was sort of kidding about Anders, but Jr. and Mayer should be really good. Anders is good but the love he gets around New Orleans is a little over the top. And Mayer has some weak pop shite, but I hear he kills it live.

Anders obviously isn't as talented as the other 2 mentioned, but he's great live.

Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer are unbelievable live, you will be pleased. And Mayer's pop stuff isn't generic pop, he uses complex chord progressions in a lot of it. He has a very tasteful style of playing. Continuum is actually one of my favorite albums, although he really hasn't had a bad album.

Marnie Stearn but no Ian Williams? Blasphemy... seriously, though.

Also, John Butler is worth mentioning.

Same reason Rolling Stones mag lists Neil Young in their top 25

His craftsmanship is top notch but it's not groundbreaking
