I know this has been done in here before, but the Metallica thread got me to thinking about some of their covers.
I think "Astronomy" on the Garage Days was one of the better covers. I like Whiskey in the Jar also but something about Astronomy around the 2:00 mark that makes it great.

Here are both Blue Oyster Cult's orginal
Astronomy

and Metallica

Tuesday's Gone

Turn The Page

I'm not the biggest Metallica fan, but my roommate had me listen to these two. Good stuff.

Any cover or just Metallica covers? For Metallica I would say turn the page. Their cover of die die my darling is good too.

Yeah, I was a bit confused by the thread. I didn't realize it was a Metallica thread.

I guess any cover I was just thinking about Metallica when I made the thread.

All of garage days is full of great covers really.

For a non Metallica I always liked:
Johnny Cash - Hurt

and by default you would have to say:
Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

"crash course in brain surgery", and their version of "stone cold crazy". love "whiskey in the jar" too. they have some great covers.

smokedawg, speaking of disturbed, really liked their cover of "land of confusion"

May not be the best version.

I could put all kinds of Dead covers up here. They played some incredible cover songs.

Postcards of the Hanging is an entire album of Dylan covers they did. And it's incredible.
