What's the board's opinion on Beirut? I willfully admit that their music is geared for everyone, but I've enjoyed some stuff I've heard (Santa Fe, East Harlem, Gibraltar, Perth). They are unconventional, avant-garde, and basically fun. They remind me a little of a quirkier Fleet Foxes.

They are one of my favorite bands and vastly under-appreciated IMO. The quality of music that they've put out is awesome and unlike anything else being released today, though I thought the last album was a little too dumbed down and I couldn't really get into it much. They are excellent live too.

It's funny you mention Fleet Foxes. I don't really see the similarity but I discovered Fleet Foxes and Beirut on the same day at Sasquatch Festival in 2008. I knew nothing of them before going to that, and I was blown away by both. Fleet Foxes actually played 2 sets that day - they had to fill in for The National whose bus had broken down.

I like them but I can't say I love them. Saw them in Brooklyn at Prospect Park last summer and they were good enough live. Didn't blow me away though.

I was also at that show. Love that venue, especially when the weather is as perfect as it was that night.
