I got the Chrysalis Years collection (1973-1979) off Amazon for about $15. Anyone here checked out their music from that period?

Big fan here. Grew up with them. Huge Michael Schenker fan. Phenomenon is amazing. Hell, all those Schenker albums are killer. Rock Bottom is up there with the all-time great hard rock songs from that time period. If you like UFO, try Michael Schenker's first two solo albums. They're amazing also.

UFO was one of the best underappreciated hard rock bands ever. The period from the first album to the live album is the first run with the classic line-up which included Michael Schenker. My opinion is that period had the strongest individual songs but was not quite as consistent in overall quality as the subsequent years with Paul Chapman on guitar. I usually don't get much agreement on that, but whatever.

Lights Out is a fantastic album but the real payoff is the live album which to me is easily one of the best live albums ever made. Schenker is just a beast.

My older brother saw UFO open up for some more popular band back in the day when I was too young to start going to concerts yet. We just figured this out a couple years ago. He barely remembered. My mind was blown; I couldn't imaging seeing them live and then forgetting about it. He said "Yeah I remember they had this blonde-haired guy on guitar who was pretty good". No shite, huh? Pretty good?

I would say Schenker is more than good.

Thanks to watching Eddie Trunk, I heard about these guys. From what I hear so far, it's great.

Big fan of UFO. Wore out more than one copy of Phenomenon in high school.

I have their first 2 albums from 1970 & 1971. The band was still in their teens. That first album was on Rare Earth label, yes, offshoot of Motown, if you can believe it! Mick Bolton was the guitarist. I figure that 1st album is worth some $$ today as I have never seen another copy other than mine. The 1st album was raw sounding, but I used to enjoy the hell out of it. The 2nd album was long (as in very long) spacey jams. If I recall, one side of their 2nd album was over 29 minutes, which meant of course, you had to turn up the volume because it exceeded the usual length limits.

I have UFO 1 on LP--has sorta moon like objects with a space background.

I like them, especially the '74-'79 era.

Live album jams as well.

Agree on both. Man I used to wear that live album flat OUT!!!

I'll never forget that UFO would've been opening for Ozzy in early March of 1982 in Baton Rouge. What a show that would've been. UFO onstage at the Centroplex, and then Ozzy with Randy Rhoads, only one of the greatest guitarists to ever make music. Would have been absolutely epic.

And then fatass Ossie Brown went and stuck his nose in it and had the show cancelled.

And the rest is history. Less than three weeks later, Rhoads was dead.

ETA: Wasn't trying to hijack with the Ozzy/Randy Rhoads tangent. Yes. UFO made some incredible music.

Doctor Doctor is one of the greatest intros of all time. My favorite time in life is before a Maiden concert when the other music goes silent and then that intro plays. Massive goose bumps.

I have many friends who are huge fans. Me , not so much. I have tried to get into UFO and Thin Lizzy but neither band gets my juices going. And as much admiration as Michael Schenker gets, his playing doesn't do it for me either.

I actually prefer the Paul Chapman era over the Schenker era, but just barely. It was hit or miss after that IMO, though. I about vomited when I heard the 'Misdemeanor' album for the first time, lol. I tried giving it another shot years later, when I re-purchased the 'Making Contact' CD, and it was bundled together with it....nope, just as bad as I remembered

My first introduction to UFO was when a friend played me "Alpha Centuri>Letting Go", and I signed on after that.

shite yes! Force It from top to bottom one of that era's best albums and there was a ton of good music then. Just good, heavy rock.
