Came across this guy on Spotify the other night and was instantly blown away. Has a retro-soul/bluesy sound and an incredible raspy voice the perfectly compliments the vibe of his music. Throw in a horns section and I'm sold. His album was produced by Dave Cobb, the same guy who has worked with sturgill, Isbell, and Chris Stapleton so you know he's going to be the real deal.

If you have Spotify or Google music, take a few minutes to listen to 'live at fame, the muscle shoals sessions'.

He's fine....seems middle of the road though. But I have heard so much retro R&B the last year I'm kind of getting tired of it.

i heard him open for Iron and Wine and Brandi Carlisle this summer. He's good but I wasn't blown away. Same reaction to opening for Isbell in Sav the other day. not really my thing.

If you like this guy you will like the playlist. Not every song is great, but generally has great alternative music.

Dudes really good. He's from Athens, AL which is the same town Alabama Shakes are from. Definitely got that Muscle Shoals sound going. Reminds me of a mix of two other Alabama artists, Jason Isbell and St. Paul & The Broken Bones.

I fully expect him to get big at some point. He's only 27 and his first album with a label just came out in July.
He's also dating Miranda Lambert now and is getting a good bit of exposure from that. They've been doing shows together and putting out covers of duets.
