Just FYI, Adele's video broke the record on Youtube with 27.7 million views in the first 24 hours.

As of this post, it has 116,684,041 views. About 20 million per day.

I am loving the album. When We Were Young is awesome. I also love Send My Love and Water Under the Bridge. There are some great songs, just a few fillers for me but none of them bad. I like that the album is classic Adele but still shows progression and experimentation with new sounds.

I also really like the album. It doesn't seem to have the same power ballads that the last album has but it does seem more upbeat. Looking forward to her going on tour again and traveling to see her.

I'm about 6 or 7 times through at this point and it gets better the more I listen to it.

It's not the phenomenon that 21 was, but it is as good a follow up to a "seminal" album as Bad was to Thriller, maybe better.

I'll have more to say once I get to my keyboard. I can't type a tl;dr on my phone.

I've been thinking that myself.

--------------------------------------

This passage from a review by Allan Raible pretty much sums it up for me:

LINK

quote:

In all, this album is deeply nuanced and demands complete focus. If the ballads all blend together at first, give it a couple listens and, with time, they will let their greatness be known.

This is not a record that will rapidly wear out its welcome. It seems like this is the kind of record that will evolve upon repetition.

At first listen, songs like "River Lea" and "I Miss You" seem like "filler" songs, but they really aren't. They are magnificent songs.

My least favorite song is "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)". It may be a hit for the T-Swizzle crowd. It's a good song, but the weakest for me.

Two "sleeper" songs I think will be "Remedy" and "All I Ask". Remedy is a Mariah-esque song and really works well.

"A Million Years Ago" could be the best song on the album. I haven't decided yet. "Hello" and "When We Were Young" are just so.damn.good.

"Sweetest Devotion" is a great song to end the album because it is hopeful and positive, looking toward the future. It's specifically written about her son, but could be about a new relationship. She seems to be putting all of the maudlin heartbreak behind her.

It will be interesting to see where she goes from here. Unless Simon Konecki really deals her a bad blow, or something really unfortunate happens, Adele may not have a whole lot of heartbreak to write about in a few years when she records again. But whatever she does, I'm sure it will be great.

I'm an Adele fan. This is my favorite album, I find the emotion of these songs just resonates with me (probably because we are near the same age and similar places in life..sans the super stardom thing). I can't listen to it sometimes because it's too powerful and has the ability to put me in bad funk.

My favorites:
Water under the bridge
When we were young
I miss you
Sweetest devotion
Why do you love me (bonus track from target)

I love every song, but those are the ones I tend to skip around to.

Love in the Dark is a deeply painful song that I honestly cannot even listen to. Beautiful yet hauntingly painful.

Really good song. Harkens back to Fleetwood Mac Rumours/Tusk era. I could see a 20something Stevie Nicks singing the shite out of this song.

It's pretty fricking devastating. I'd hate to be in a "really bad, end of relationship" state of mind.

"Hello" reaches One Billion views in 90 days. Fastest ever. #2 is "Gangnam Style" in 159 days (2.5 billion total views so far )

Also, it took the death of a rock demi-god to knock 25 out of the #1 spot on Billboard charts.
