Speaking of bad music. Ever listened to Little Steven's Underground Garage? Terrible stuff there.

True -- he's actually played Led Zeppelin ( ), Aerosmith, ( ), and Bad Company ( )

He must be senile. I guess it's time for assisted living.

Not sure any of those albums are as good as Rumours, Aja, or Hotel California.

I don't know what y'all want from me.

I defend The Beatles on here all the time from "snobs". I'm even fond of The Beatles (White Album), but it is not their best - Abby Road, Sgt. Pepper and Let it Be are the best Beatles albums - White Album has a lot of fluff, IMHO.

Beggar's Banquet? Loaded with great singles, but doesn't have the cohesive feel that those top 3 from 1978 have.

I'll admit that JT is milquetoast, but some of the very best of the genre - I mean a lot of the folk/soft/acoustic acts had a lot to say, (Baez, Simon and Garfunkel, Mitchell), Taylor was one of the best. And JT was his best album.

Obviously, soundtracks are a unique category, but tougher to find a more seminal one than John Williams' Star Wars.

But, Hotel California, Aja and Rumours are 3 of the best "albums" of all time, period.

No. I wasn't crazy about The Disciples of Soul. For that matter, I think Springsteen is overrated (although there are some guilty pleasures in there, for sure - it is no wonder his only #1 was by another act - Manfred Mann was a "no shite" rock and roll outfit. Without The Big Man, the E Street Band is relatively uninteresting in the grand scheme of things.)

in the '60s maybe -- in the '70s they were bloated AOR

I agree with you to an extent as far as post-'70s stuff is concerned, but I'll take "Rosalita" over anything in your OP

FWIW, here are the nominees for Best New Artist in 1979:

Chris Rea
Elvis Costello
The Cars
Toto
A Taste of Honey (winner)

Meh. You called Steely Dan pretentious - Bruce was kind of feeling his "pretention" oats, here, IMHO.

I like Tenth Avenue Freeze Out and Born to Run off the next album, but I always felt that Bob Seger did "that" style of rock and roll a lot more sincerely and, quite frankly, competently than Bruce did (and, again, Blinded By the Light is probably his best song and he never recorded a competent version of it - sounding like Dylan with abdominal cramps, typically).

That is funny. Steve P. probably got a chuckle out of that, having invented modern drumming already at this point in his career.

While you can call a lot of BS pretentious, I don't get that vibe from "Rosalita" -- in fact that's probably the lightest thing he ever did

Seger is a strange case -- I like a lot of his '60s stuff, but he got more and more pompous as he got more famous; eventually ("Old Time Rock & Roll", "Fire Lake", "Turn The Page") he became unbearable. He ironically began to sound like a Springsteen imitator -- despite the fact that he came first.

You're using The Grammys as a reference of any sort for good music?

It's amazing MM saw anything in that song to remake. That's how bad it was. Kinda like Jason seeing something in Absolutely Sweet Marie or The Byrds seeing something in My Back Pages.

I prefer Bruce's original

And Dylan's ASM is a great record -- IMHO it should've been a single. I much prefer it to actual singles from BOB, "Just Like A Woman" and "Everybody Must Get Stoned"

I like the JATS cover, but if there is a remake that might be superior, it would be The Flamin' Groovies' version

They just redid Dylan's terrible performance.
