It's a day late but I was waiting for Kevin Gates mixtape to drop. Either way, yesterday was a pretty solid day in rap

In album releases alone:
Boosie Badazz - Touchdown 2 Cause Hell
Dizzy Wright - The Growing Process
A$AP Rocky - At Long Last A$AP
and then a surprise mixtape:
Kevin Gates - Murder For Hire

Unfortunately, Kevin's mixtape was the worst of the four. A$AP's lyrics can be simple but I love some of his beats like on Canal Street and Electric Body

Bought Rocky this morning, waiting for the ride home for the 1st listen.
Had a friend tell me that the Gates tape wasn't very good either, think I may pass on that one.

Not surprised. Gates is mediocre at best

I've never been a huge fan. I know the song is overplayed around there in Louisiana, but I can play Just Ride every day. There's a number of his songs I like but he can get tiring real quick

I'm a big Kevin fan but I'm also probably biased. That being said it does seem like a rushed filler tape. But I like it.

What I've heard so far of Boosie's is pretty legit.

Still want to check out Dizzy Wright's drop. I've liked what I've heard from him over the years.

Even though it was s couple days prior I feel like Starlito's Introversion could use a mention on this page

At Long Last A$AP cover art is so badass.

His song, L$D, is legit.

The production on Rocky's album is so nice. Fine Whine beat is nifty. Also like the songs with features from Juicy, Pimp C, Future, and surprisingly Wayne. Excuse Me is probably my favorite solo song right now. Surprised at no Ferg involvement though.

No freaking Clammy Clams is what is killing me. If you had told me the album would drop without a Clams beat on it, I'd never predict that I would like the album as much as I do.

I thought Clams produced Max B?

Could be. I read something earlier talking about no Clams on the album. The sample of Lucero on "Holy Ghost" might make up for any omission regardless.

I think that's my favorite song on the album although Canal St. is a favorite of mine also. I was actually really impressed with it because I thought his fame would get to him but he stayed true

Just curious...how old are all of you who like this sort of rap music? Please read nothing into it...it's just me wanting to see if any of you rank over 30.

I'm 41, but approximately zero people within my social circle listen to new rap or hip hop. Quite a few I know listen to more alternative/backpacker type stuff (Talib Kweli, Mos Def, J5, etc..), but very few listen to stuff like ASAP.

In all honesty, I don't listen to stuff like Boosie or Kevin Gates that much either. I might give it a spin or two just so I can provide an intelligent opinion on it, but it's seldom what I'm reaching for when I'm wanting to listen to some rap. I'm more along the Chance the Rapper, Towkio, Wara, Mitch Jenkins, and such when I'm wanting to listen to rap. But damn, I love some A$AP for whatever reason.
