Thinking about making an awards season watch list thread. We'll
Have Birdman, Whiplash, and a few others in the next 2 weeks.

Really want to see Calvary. It's right up my alley as an Irish Catholic (mom was born there).
Saw Gone Girl. It deserves it, but I bet it gets screwed.
Calvary is a movie that will definitely make you think about it long after its finished. Its one of those movies that I spent time looking up other people's theories about how it parallels stories in the Bible. Definitely not a dark comedy like some are saying.
Will be seeing Gone Girl tomorrow.

Really a great movie. Explores how people relate to God. How they try to be right in God's eyes. Some question if he's real. And then you get Brendan Gleeson's side as he does ministry.

I liked GotG but I don't see it being a contender at all

I liked Boyhood a lot, but for a movie that was otherwise so good, I don't see why Linklater needed to interject Michael Moore-ish, juvenile political commentary into it. The scene with them stealing McCain signs was so shallow and aimed to please the dumbest people in the audience.
It also annoyed me that the kid drove himself to college 500 miles away and packed one suitcase...like that ever happens outside of the movies or tv.

I don't believe we have fallen that much as a society to have a comic book movie as one of 10 best movies of the year
The Dark Knight was clearly a Top 10 film in 2008.

I've seen 74 movies in the theater this year (some were repeat viewings).
Oscar contenders so far:
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Boyhood
Gone Girl
Movies that I'd hope would get nominated, but probably won't:
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Chef
The Drop

I have my hope. It was a sappy comedy done perfectly. I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Bumping to ask if there is an app that keeps up with the movies you watch? I don't know that I could come up with the specific number of movies I watched last year.

You could always just add movies you've seen to IMDB's Watchlist. I use them for movies that I want to see, but I don't take them off the list if I like them since I'll be down to rewatch them years from now.

Spread sheet in excel is what I use. I have close to 2,000 movies ranked.
