1985 Cast:

Joan Cusack
Robert Downey, Jr.
Nora Dunn
Anthony Michael Hall
Jon Lovitz
Dennis Miller
Randy Quaid
Terry Sweeney
Danitra Vance

Outside of Lovitz and Miller it's a mess.

And they had some bad skits skits. It's funny, Lorne fired every previous cast member to start fresh with that line-up too.

Tracy Morgan
Ana Gasteyer
Chris Parnell
Darrell Hammond (though his Clinton was the bomb)
Will Ferrell (people forget how unfunny he was on the show outside of a few skits)
Tim Meadows
Amy Poehler
Jimmy Fallon (the absolute worst)

Really?

yeah, they were terrible...even when they did have a funny skit, they would run it into the ground quick.

no...that cast was just BORING...I love comedy, and can find laughs in anything, but that group was atrocious. Just horrible.

wtf?
Will Ferrell slayed on that group.
Yes he had some bomb skits as everyone does but he was amazing.

This is definitely the correct answer.

when will ferrell hit, he hit big, but 95% of his skits were fricking awful. He only had a handful of good ones. Even if I'm being retarded (which is always possible) and he was great...there is no defending the others. just no defense. It was so terrible, and following a cast of

farley
sandler
spade
myers
mcdonald
hartman
and many other very funny members, just amplified the suckage of this cast.

I've never been a strict follower of SNL, so I can't really conceive of a worst cast chronologically.

I can say this:

If I tune in these days, I don't laugh. At all. So, I'd imagine that puts today's cast somewhere in the running. SNL re-runs can at least make me chuckle a few times, even at their worst.

today is really bad as well, but definitely an improvement over the previous cast.

I'm not so sure. Fey, Morgan, Ferrell, Poehler, and Fallon all have solid careers after SNL. This current cast's prospects are fairly dreary, outside of a couple.

But I found the 1998-2006 cast fairly funny for the most part. The current cast doesn't do it for me.

One of those guys is doing pretty well in movies...he's in the horrible bosses movie and was just in another.

sandberg will definitely get gigs and he is pretty funny.

Wig just had a huge hit with Bridesmaids

and who knows what else will come.

I cannot say that I find one person on the 98-2006 cast funny outside of an occassionally funny ferrell movie and Amy Poehler.

Kristin Wiig is fricking horrible. I can honestly say I may have laughed 3 times with her on the screen. Her and Poehler are probably the least funny women ever from SNL.

Fey has been nominated for Emmy's as has Poehler and Morgan. Ferrell has been in 5 or so movies that have made over $100 million dollars where he had top billing.

Fallon has one of the plum late night talk shows.

The current cast would be extremely lucky to have this type of success.

They might not have suited your taste, but I could hardly characterize that 98-06 cast as the worst. The '85 cast is way worse.

No doubt they've had success. I just don't think you can say that the current cast has had zero.

success really doesnt' mean shite to me. Kevin James is successful and have you seen the people who turn out for his movies?

I'd say its started closer to 2000 than 98. 2004 was an awful, awful cast.

What about the cast with chris Elliot, the guy from Laverne and Shirley and the guy from the kids in the hall? Those were some pretty dark years too.
