it was a failure because like john Travolta with battlefield earth, he tried to shove that psycho scientology shite down our throats

when the icing on that cake is his annoying fricking kid, well...

independence day is probably his best movie IMO

it's not often a 20 year old science fiction/action movie has aged well

but beyond that, I think I hate everything else he was in

I did like that post apocalyptic vampire movie...it was pretty solid.

Just because some people have made connections between After Earth and Scientology doesn't mean that there actually is one.

Even then, I don't see how it was "shoved down our throats."

Poor phrasing

The kid was shoved down our throat

The whackadoo cult was just the single biggest influence on the movie

How was the kid shoved down our throats? Because he was in a movie? Nobody forced you do watch it. Yes, that kid is annoying as frick, but you sound like someone who just likes to complain.

the kid was shoved down our throats a number of ways

1. the fact he was in this movie
2. the marketing for said movie
3. his screen time in said movie

the film was used as a vehicle to launch his kid to stardom...take a chill pill

shoved down our throats - he was, it's not like I'm in therapy as a result. It's a discussion board dipshit.

Will Smith has made some good movies, some great movies, and some not so great movies. He seems like a nice guy. I'd have a beer with him.

I think Will needs to throttle back and do a few ensemble roles. In every movie of his he is the main guy (I'm sure I'm probably over-generalizing that). Maybe he'd benefit from doing some supporting roles.

I'm sure you're in therapy for entirely different reasons.

I could not finish watching it. Undoubtedly some of the worst, most awkward acting I have ever witnessed.

And I never released that and moved into a mature way of looking at the world and my artistry and love until the failure of ‘After Earth,’ when I had to accept that it’s not a good source of creation.”

Thats possibly the saddest and most pathetic statement I've every read.

I didn't see After Earth but were Will and Jaden really the problem or was it Shymalan? He has a much worse track record lately than either Will or Jaden. Seems like Shymalan doesn't get enough hate for this.

it's the actors and the dialogue (pretty much the entire script)

there isn't a director alive (or that did live) that could polish this turd without completely changing everything

the dialogue is where the scientology comes into play, and the acting is terrible...beyond awful. It could have been better despite how terrible the writing was
