So I saw the Will Smith classic on HBO and I don't think I've seen it in a decade. So I'm bored and decided to watch it. Here's my musings.

What works:
- Salma Hayeks boobs and booty. No explanation necessary

- The soundtrack
If you are between the ages of 28-35, then you probably had the Will Smith theme on your radio non stop during '99. And Enrique.

What doesn't work
- The plot is absurd.
- The acting is terrible. Smith and Kline are more than capable actors. They have zero chemistry.
- Did I mention the plot is absurd?
- Kenneth Brnaugh is a terrible villain. Once again a terrific actor is a terrible role.

I highly recommend you download the HDTGM podcast of this movie. Kevin Smith is the guest host. He tells a story about Superman Lives, a shitty studio exec, and how a spider made it into the movie from Krypton.

Just to be serious, I know this movie is garbage. I didn't expect that it would be any better after ten years. But it's been a shitty week, and I'm tired of talking about politics.

We should start a Bad Movie of the Week thread and post in game reviews.

Disagree! Branagh trading racist vs. handicap jokes with Will Smith is still hysterical. Racists don't get to be funny much these days. Gotta appreciate the camp.
Rest of movie is crap, though.

The HDTGM eps is good but I believe he also tells this story on his first An Evening With DVD. I'm sure you can find the story on YouTube but the dvd is also good for the Prince story.

I will defend this movie to no end. Yes it's absurd in every single way, but if you steer into the skid it's so much fun.

This. I lose it watching them go back and forth with their barbs to each case other, never gets old.

While this movie does pretty much suck, it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I'll watch it occasionally if its on tv.

Plenty of great movies you can make with black men in the wild west.

Just not this one.

Not to get all Ghostbusters on this, but the original series was an important take on the 60's James Bond craze and is arguably the origin of steampunk. The premise is that these two agents are blending in as they go about their missions in the old west. Having a black man as James West kills any suspension of disbelief that these two guys are able to go undercover in the post-war 1860's and 1870's.
