Why don't the big networks use cable TVs model for shows?

Have a constant rotation of several shows with 10-12 episode seasons. 20+ episode seasons for anything outside of procedural crap seems pretty tough to do without tons of filler.

Keeps content fresh, attract better talent because the time commitment isn't as massive and grueling, overall product is better, etc.

because their main demographic of 70 year olds on social security prefer watching 5 different NCIS and Law and Orders

network TV getting no cable subscription money to fall back on is probably the biggest reason.

because they're in millions of more homes and as a result of that get paid more for advertising?
