Why Do Brits Make Such Good Voice Overs/Narration?

Watching the British Open and a dramatic montage promo came on highlighting past winners and Stephen Dillane(Stannis Baratheon) was narrating. Yes, he has a great voice, but his accent just made it so much more intense and powerful. ESPN used to do a similar montage with Ian McShane and it was awesome.

I get that the British Open is, well, British and it needs that accent for its promos, but what I'm talking about goes far beyond English sports. Take Top Gear for example, Clarkson, May, and Hammond were all excellent narrators on their segments. In fact it's one of the many reasons the show was so good.

Nature shows are another example, a Britsih guy narrating a lion lurking across the Serengeti is just synonymous with a Brit accent. It just seems that accent lends itself so much better for that kind of stuff.

It's a clearer accent than American English. We tend to slur or speak quickly.

I think Peter Coyote--an American--has voiced over just about everything in the last 25 years.

Certain accents of British English are naturally more suited to narration. Plus they still study their mother tongue over there and give a shite how things are said.

Coyote is good.

Liev Schreiber is my hands-down favorite right now. I don't care what the topic is, when I hear his voice on an documentary I stop and watch.

We're losing the Mid-Atlantic American accent over here. Kelsey Grammer is one of the last holdouts on that.

B/c Americans are conditioned to regard anything English as classy and superior, especially the Oxford accent

The same way we are conditioned to regard the flat, midwestern Ted Baxter voice as the "standard" US accent, or even an "accentless" voice

BBC has some great ones for "Yellowstone" and other nature docs.

But the best is Americans David McCullough followed by Peter Coyote.

Say what you will about America and its independence from the British empire, but the worst part of that deal was losing their accent.
