I don't find either of them funny to be honest but was surprised to see Fallon be so successful.

1) Fallon was given a chance, and wasn't sabotaged halfway through his first year
2) Fallon is generally a lowest common denominator type host. He's Leno 2.0, with a focus on a younger audience
3) Fallon had better timing with the youtube wave, which has started to carry late night hosts

But, to be fair, Conan just stayed too far out there for too long. But heck, if Colbert is getting nearly 2 years, Conan should have had more than what, 16 months?

In the end, it's a combination of bad timing, and terrible management decisions, and Fallon playing pop culture far better than Conan.

My guess is it's because he's always so upbeat and happy and plays all those games, even tho a lot of the overly nice stuff is fake. But I definitely find Conan funnier

Leno being his lead in was the bigger death sentence.

Fallon comes off extremely fake imo.

Conan seems like he enjoys what he does.

He has his own internal laugh-track.

That helps.

Yeah Fallon is kind of awkward to watch at times. However, he did some great musical skits (like the Pearl Jam Jeremy Lin thing) pretty early on that went viral and established him with the younger audience.

Pretty much all he has is musical related skits. Gets old after awhile imo

Because Fallon was given a chance and he fed to the lowest common denominator. He's a terrible interviewer, creatively bankrupt, and only plays drinking games with his guests.

Try 7 months. I loved one of his last jokes in saying that usually programs show how many kids were born to the staff during their time on the air, but since they didn't even have enough time to even gestate a single kid, they just bred a bunch of gerbils in the final few weeks of the show to get the same effect.

Was it that short? That's crazy.

He is safe and bland and unoffensive, just like Leno. Old people can watch him while they fall asleep. Conan was too weird for mainstream audiences.

Fallon is also pretty nonpartisan. He's probably liberal but he doesnt make it impossible for any type of conservative to enjoy his show like colbert or maher does.

That's why I stopped watching Kimmel. The guy is funny but I couldn't stand his one-sided vicious attacks on the right while the left got minor things like "oh can you believe she wore that?". SNL is the same way.

Agreed. I can't stand Colbert since he took over for Letterman.

I miss the days of Letterman and Leno in their primes

Is Conan off the air? I haven't had cable in a long time, but I see his clips on youtube all the time. The one where he hangs out with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube is pretty funny. I think they even did a sequel..

Because Jay Leno fricked him over and demanded his time slot back.
