Used to be a small click of us like Night and Dawn of the Living Dead fans.

Walking Desd was self published at first.

Now zombies are HUGE.

Why?

1. Just their turn.

2. General sense of societal breakdown symptom.

3. They were always cool and the boring folks caught up to the nerds.

4. Zombies are metaphorical tales of racism and white fears.

A final note:

The Brad Pitt Zombie flick (World War Z) next year has a $150 mill budget. That's insane.

Largest zombie film box office was Zombieland at $75 mill.

Some look at zombie movies as they are and ask why

I look at zombie movies as they could be and ask, why not?

after the recent vampire genre resurgence Hollywood was looking for the next recycled niche they could exploit and landed on zombies.

don't worry, it'll be something else in about 3 years. probably aliens.

Well, IMO, World War Z was a really good book, that just happened to be about a ZA. Zombieland was overall a good movie, and funny, and it also happened to be about zombies. Walking Dead is a really good TV show, and it's about people surviving a ZA.

I don't know that zombies are necessarily more popular, I just think that there are a few examples of works that are so high quality that they transcend genre and are just good works of fiction, film, or TV.

Resident Evil over the last ten years, The Walking Dead, and a real-life string of face eaters this summer has driven it to a fever pitch. Next.

1. you won't have to worry about tripping me because a zombie apocalypse is about as likely a scenario as the plot of the new Red Dawn Movie (North Korea occupying the U.S.), New Orleans having the lowest murder rate per capita in the nation, Charlie Brown making a field goal, LSU fans fully accepting and embracing Les Miles as their head coach, and the majority of posters on this board loving Shia Lebuff in something.

2. I'm armed, trained in wilderness survival, and know exactly what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse so I wouldn't die anyways.

You would not have a chance. One gunshot and tens of thousands of zombies would overwhelm your 10 foot high fence.

It also helps that I live in a fairly rural area (aka, I have my own food supply) around very well armed family in close proximity to two hospitals and military assets, so...
