I think you're seeing Madison Avenue's version of the American hipster in these commercials. Give me a nerd over a hipster every time.

Similar to the old Video Jukebox Channel only instead of seeing Sir Mixalot, Metallica and TwoLiveCrew you can see your own hate video & those of others.

The ads that try to encourage parents to buy a vehicle so their kids' friends will be impressed are the ones that amaze me. There must be idiots that are swayed by them because I've seen a few.
There's a pretty new ad for a convertible (It may be Mazda) where they go through a guy's life & talk about the cars he bought from when he first started driving, through having kids, etc, to the kids being out of the house and you can buy the convertible and get back to being "the real you" again....
I imagine some nit wits, that never owned a convertible, think they can go buy one and try to fool people into thinking they used to be cool. That ad is aimed at nerds in my mind.
