Who is the most competent in their chosen field of endeavor?

Some possibilities (of course your answer does not have to come from this list):

Woodrow Call - Lonesome Dove
Tom Hagan - The Godfather
Walter White - Breaking Bad
Montgomery Scott - Star Trek
Pepper Potts - Iron Man
Augustus McCrae - Lonesome Dove
Michael Corleone - The Godfather
Mary Poppins - Mary Poppins
Angus MacGyver - MacGyver
Turanga Leela - Futurama

he got many, many people killed, alienated himself from his whole family, and ended up dying within 2 years. Not sure he qualifies simply because he's good at chemistry.

I understand. But heck, he was a mediocre chemistry teacher with serious financial problems who in pretty short order developed maybe the best version of his "product" (granted that product was meth), managed to get the better of some pretty vicious criminal operatives, and left his family with financial security untraceable to his criminal endeavors.

I dunno. I always thought Spock was a bit overrated. Although teamed with Kirk they may have amounted to one of the most competent one-two punch teams.

You have a point. I always thought that was a bit of self promotion on his part. But he is very very good.

There is definitely a lot of truth to this, but he is also fairly absent-minded at times, has caused his share of problems in the universe, and is not that great at flying his TARDIS.
