This kind of crap happens. They paid for the rights.
So maybe they just want to keep them as long as they can in the off chance that a bigger production company decides to go in with them, etc.

Also cut out all of the Faile crap, most of the endless Aes Sedai stuff, the dressing scenes, Rand sitting around doing nothing for 3 books, characters that don't matter, etc etc etc.
Really, it could be condensed into a pretty good story. Hire Brandon Sanderson to supervise.
