I need to go to Lafayette to pick up something later today and thought I'd take the kids to see Star Wars while I'm there. I've never been to any of the theaters in Lafayette, so I don't know which one I should go to?

There are two, both Grand's, and they're basically the same. Grand 16 has a little bit nicer seats that's about it

Thanks! Do any of them have the reclining, pre assigned seats, like Perkins Rowe or Movie Tavern?

The Grand 16 on Johnston Street is probably the main one. I haven't been yet since they reopened it after all that sad stuff happened, but I heard that they have nice chairs in there now.

The Grand 14 on Kaliste Saloom is average, but it is right next to a brand-new pretty sweet shopping center that has all kinds of cool stores like Dicks Sporting Goods and Field and Stream

Then they have Celebrity 10 in Broussard which is nice but it's all the way out in Broussard.

And worth it if you don't like overcrowded theatres. I'd rather make the drive and go to this one.

But crowds shouldn't be a problem if you are going early on a weekday.

Go to the Celebrity in Broussard. Cheaper and usually pretty empty.

I wonder how long that'll last once they open that Walk-Ons right across the street?

Anyone know what viewing room in the theater that happened in?

Yeah, I don't go to the movies a lot, I think I only went two or three times this year, all in Baton Rouge. But when I do go in Lafayette, I don't mind making the drive out to Celebrity. It's definitely a more subdued atmosphere. I don't remember what movie it was, but I remember going to see a huge highly anticipated movie there opening night, and the theater was only maybe a third or half full which was nice

The Grand on Johnston serves alcohol. The other one doesn't, for some reason.

Ended up going to Celebrity in Broussard. You were right. It's a very laid back theater. Nothing fancy at all, but there was only about 25% of the seats filled. Don't know how they stay in business. We went checked out the Field & Stream while we were there and the Grand next door was packed. Wish I would've skipped Star Wars altogether though. I didn't care for it, honestly.

On a side note, Jesus Christ the traffic in Lafayette now is horrible. That whole Ambassador Cafferry/Kaliste Saloom area is a clusterfrick!

I've lived here since 2001. It was always bad. But it started getting significantly worse after hurricane Katrina. It wasn't long after that I moved out of Lafayette. It got too big for me. And the surrounding areas are growing rapidly as well. So, I may have to move again

I've had that same thought as well. I guess they make just enough money. The only movie I saw there that had a full house was Episode VII. It was opening weekend. But there were still plenty of empty seats.

We got there a little early so the kids wanted to goof off in the arcade. Out of 6 games, 4 were out of order. They must not be in a big hurry to make money. If I lived in that area, I'd go back. You could walk in 2 minutes before the show and grab a center seat. And it was only like 8 bucks for adult and 6 for kids.
