The laugh track is really throwing me off. It's not needed at all.

It is unwatchable because of the laugh track

I thought that show didn't have canned laughter.

eta: Found this

quote:

Although the first season of Sports Night is a sitcom, it often is portrayed as more of a comedy-drama representative of some of Sorkin's later work on The West Wing. Sorkin intended for the series' humor to be drier and more realistic than typical sitcoms. He initially wanted the show to be recorded without a laugh track, but ABC network executives insisted on including one.[11][12] The volume of the laugh track faded as Season One continued[13] and was abandoned at the beginning of Season Two.[

Laugh track sucks, but the show overcomes it.

I've always watched TV simply for entertainment, but it was the first show I ever watched where I was aware of the great writing, dialog, and character development. I haven't watched it since it aired, may be time for a rematch.

Own and watch it in full every other year or so. I barely notice the laugh track anymore.

Why are the character constantly talking? Is this a sub genre?

Cocaine had a writing credit.

Laugh tracks were the norm back when the show was made, so they had to slowly mix the sound to get rid of it. It's not like today, where we are used to no laugh tracks. That was the way shows were made back then, and this was one of the first shows to get rid of it.

I watched it sometimes when it first aired. It's a good show, but it gets its balls slobbered on by Sorkin fan boys way too much.

Meh, I'm not a Sorkin fan all that much, but I think Sports Night is the best, and most natural, thing he's ever done.

That would be the West Wing. The timing and laugh track ruin the flow perfected in West Wing.

Every Sorkin script should come with a laugh track. Steve Jobs would've benefited from canned laughter and a big Kramer cheer for every Seth Rogen entrance.
