...how awesome of a cast this thing had. First off, awesome, awesome movie. But the cast was full of solid actors. Here's a breakdown..

- Josh Hartnett

In tons of shite...Lucky Number Slevin, The Faculty, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Pearl Harbor, 30 Days of Night, etc.

- Ewan McGregor

In tons of shite...Star Wars prequels, Angels and Demons, Trainspotting, The Impossible, Big Fish, etc.

- Tom Sizemore

Tons of shite...True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Heat, Saving Private Ryan, etc. Basically, Tom back when he was awesome and not wasted on drugs and alcohol.

- Eric Bana

Tons of shite...Hulk, Troy, Star Trek, Funny People, etc.

- William Fichtner (highly underrated actor IMO)

Tons of shite...Heat, Contact, Armageddon, Perfect Storm, Longest Yard remake, etc.

- Ewen Bremner

In things like Snatch, AVP, Jack the Giant Slayer, etc.

- Sam Shepard

In shite like Steel Magnolias, Pelican Brief, Swordfish, The Notebook, Mud, etc.

- Gabriel Casseus

In shite like Fallen, 24, and other random TV shows.

- Kim Coates

In shite like Last Boy Scout, Waterworld, Pearl Harbor, Open Range, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy, etc.

- Hugh Dancy

In a bunch of shite I've never seen, but is in Hannibal now.

- Ron Eldard (a.k.a. Tim Roth's fricking doppleganger)

Seriously, that's not Tim Roth. And he's been on lots of shite like ER, Deep Impact, Mystery, Alaska, Justified, Super 8, etc.

- Ioan Gruffud

Been in a shite ton of Horatio Hornblower movies (no idea..), as well as things like Sanctum and 102 Dalmations. But he's most notable as Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four movies.

- Tom Guiry

Muthafricking Scottie Smalls! Also in shite like U-571, Mystic River, Black Donnellys. But frick that, he's Smalls forever.

- Jason Isaacs

Tons of shite...The Patriot, Armageddon, Brotherhood, and Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies.

- Zeljko Ivanek

shite like Homicide, Unfaithful, 24, Oz, Heroes, Damages, Revolution, The Event, etc.

- Glenn Morshower

Tons of shite...Under Seige, Air Force One, Transformers, X-Men, etc...but I'll always know him as my boy Aaron on 24.

- Jeremy Piven

Tons of shite...Judgment Night, Larry Sanders, Ellen, Cars, Entourage, etc.

- Richard Tyson

He's been in lots of random shite, but basically he's Cullen Crisp, the bad guy in Kindergarten Cop, so that's awesome.

- Brian Van Holt

Been in shite like Basic, S.W.A.T., House of Wax, John from Cincinnati, etc. But I know him as my boy Bobby Cobb from Cougar Town.

- Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

He's actually been in a good bit of shite, but let's face it...it's Jaime muthafricking Lannister.

- Steven Ford

Random roles like Armageddon, Starship Troopers, Heat, Eraser, etc...but also has been on The Young and The Restless for like 20+ years apparently.

- Tom Hardy

I mean shite...Band of Brothers, Inception, Warrior, Lawless, Dark Knight Rises, etc.

- Gregory Sporleder

Small part in Twister, bad guy in The Rock, The Crazies, True Blood, etc.

- Orlando Bloom

Again, tons of shite...Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies, Troy, Pirates of the Caribbean movies, etc.

- Enrique Murciano

Speed 2, Spyder Games, Without a Trace, CSI, etc.

- George Harris

Tons of shite...Raiders of the Lost Ark, Casualty, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, etc.

- Treva Etienne

Small parts in random shite like Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Terminator: Salvation, Bad Boys 2, etc.

- Ty Burrell

National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Muppets Most Wanted, Dawn of the Dead, etc....and of course, pimp dad Phil Dunphy on Modern Family.

- Boyd Kestner

shite like Knots Landing, The General's Daughter, Hannibal, etc.

So that's damn near 30 people from the cast who range from either recognizable to huge megastars. I was watching over the weekend and I always remembered that there were a lot of familiar people in it, but almost literally every single time a new character popped up, it was someone famous/recognizable. Crazy shite.

Also, weirdly enough, it seems like damn near half of these people were all in Pearl Harbor together.

You're right on Fichtner...but damn, I had no idea the list was that extensive. Good work.

yeah, maybe the most solid male cast of all time.

I'm serious when I say that. There are movies with more megastars like the Oceans movies, but this movie had super famous people practically without lines

I know most of this, but Kim Coates is in this? I need to rewatch, such an underrated war movie.

Exactly. I was like "holy shite, that's ____" then two minutes later, "wait a second, that's ___!"

Yup. I hadn't seen it in years, but one thing I always remembered was the end when Hartnett is like "You're going back in there?" and Eric Bana is like "Yeah, there's still soldiers in there" (or whatever). Complete badass.

When the Delta guys sneak up on the bad guys firing the recoiless rifle at the trapped Rangers and garrote them, that still makes me want to stand up a cheer.

And then they aim the giant gun/cannon at the other bad guys and blast them.

People were dying to get into that movie - just as they were for Saving Private Ryan. Most male actors really want to be a soldier at least once in a film.

Blackhawk Down is my second favorite war movie (first remains Patton) and directed by my favorite director. If you really want to have some fun, go back and do a cast analysis of Platoon - not nearly the numbers as BHD, but, a lot of star horsepower for the time (even though some hadn't quite become household names, yet.)
