Walking Dead : Anyone heard of the package from woodbury?

Apparently either it's a promotional stunt, or some big fan probably having fun... But at least 17 people including Robert Kirkman have received a "Package from woodbury" containg a letter, a lock of hair, a skeleton key, a black and white photo (with partial lettering on the back).
People are beginning to piece together the clues on various websites including spoil the dead, twitter, etc.

Most put together image of the clue.
Kirkman's letter was different I think than everyone else's.
Apparently says something like...
Spoil the dead's thread on the packages with a whole lot more pics.

Anyway, thought it was kinda cool.

i didn't click your link but I'm pretty sure this all originated from someone on reddit
I saw someone post about it, and someone in the comments said it started in some other thread.
apparently some guy was sending walking dead mail (as in the pics) to people that would give him their address...so yeah, creepy...and why would people give out their address?

Most of the people that got it are associated with the show in some form... either web bloggers, guests on the talking dead, etc. It wasn't just random people getting them.
Most likely a publicity stunt, or a prank by someone associated with the show in some form or fashion.
Probably chris hardwick.

Someone has too much time on their hands. I'd be creeped out if some weirdo got my name and address. How did they decide who gets a package? All people from the show?

You think you're kidding. Last year a TD episode fell on his birthday and he mentioned it was his birthday probably every 5 minutes.

Beats me, but it wasn't people from the show (actors or directors) that got them. Just people somehow associated with the show. At least so far. Kirkman has been the biggest name to have reportedly gotten one.
I don't know if it was a planned publicity stunt/hoax for fans... or if someone/group sent them out without any of the people receiving them knowing they were going to get them as a sort of prank.
Either way, they obviously had access to addresses.

He gets on my nerves. Only watched singled out for Jenny. Chris is like..old but still tries to be a cool nerd. Yet he's condescending, and an obvious arse kisser.

Yvette Nicole Brown - Black lady on the talking dead that always has the notepad.
Ronny Haze from Make a Path Presents Youtube Channel - Does webisodes on the comics and show, and is usually good at making predictions.
Howie Noel - Illustrator that does Walking Dead Artwork
Wendy Sheperd - Owner of studiomatrix.com and movievine.com. Works in the tv and film business and I think was associated with walking dead and the new movie air starring norman reedus.
Some chick named Dani on twitter, seems to be a walking dead fan, but don't know much else about her.
Dalton Ross - Works for entertainment weekly and reports on the walking dead often.
The Walking Dead Saga - From what I can tell some fan that is really big on tweeting and blogging about the show.
Secret Headquarters - Business specializing in comics
And some other randoms that seemed to be involved in comics or blogging about the show in some form.
