For anybody interested in this era and want to read some historical fiction on it - I've stumbled across some of the Bernard Cornwell books (sometimes called The Warrior Chronicles and sometimes called the Saxon Stories).
Cornwell does a good job of presenting the viewpoint of both the Danes (ie: Vikings) and the Saxons. The three "sons of Lothbrock" are in to a decent extent (They have a Ragnar too but it's not Ragnar Lothbrock).

I'm current with Cornwells Saxon Stories. Very good reads, though they are all a little short.

Yeah. They are pretty quick reads. I'm on the 3rd book and I only started last week. (heck, I picked up the first book in his Arthur series to kind of space things out).
But I think the Saxon/Warrior series would be great for those who like Vikings and want more info about the different players during that time.

I've been recommending Cornwell's books for years. His Saxon Chronicles is awesome. Ragnar is not a Lothbrok in his books, but there are Lothbroks named Ivar and Ubba. Cornwell's books are set about 60-100 years later than Vikings.
Uhtred is such a badass character.

And HalfDan - although his part is not as prominent.
Another recommendation for anyone looking for things along this general subject matter - 13th Warrior. One of my favorite movies.
