There are so many funny things about this. One is that I guarantee you don't understand gravity but think you do. It certainly isn't a simple scientific concept.

Exactly. Scientists don't have a fricking clue on why gravity works. It's definitely a very complex portion of physics. Anyone who says they understand gravity is completely clueless.

Hell, I know people that were confused by Contact.

Can't wait to see this movie.

A question I do have is will it be too complex for general audiences. A lot of these people who saw it at Fort Hood are saying people were walking out scratching their heads. Apparently it confused a lot of them.

Probably, but it doesn't matter as long at it is entertaining. Average people are stupid, yet average people liked Inception. This is more ambitious, but we see it all the time. A lot of dumb people got into breaking bad and mad men and other relatively ambitious projects that they probably only appreciated 60% of because there was still enough there for them.

sounds like the sci-fi movie that I wish all sci-fi movies were

I was being nitpicky about most of that but the gravity comment is nitpicky on y'all. There are unknowns about gravity like most fields of physics. It doesn't fit into some other theories, etc. There is a lot more scientists need to learn. But to say that people don't understand it is silly. I lived with a couple of astrophysicists for a short time (and I spent all day asking them about their work)and all they did was take what they understood of gravity to make their scientific discoveries. We simply wouldn't understand most of the stuff we do about the universe if we didn't. We can tell how many planets are around a sun, the effects of a black hole on nearby objects, etc because of our understanding of gravity. Why and how are different things. That's just how I see it. If you can show me I'm wrong, I'll take it.

An interesting read regarding some simulations they ran to model a black hole. A really cool video is included as well. Some great stuff here.

Ok, that's just awesome. And to the idiot who thinks it's going to be as scientifically accurate as Prometheus.
