most likely. That's what's so great about westerns. The documentation isn't there. It's legend

Garret probably did kill Billy.
That doesn't mean in the movie, he has to.
The ending could go either way, or even left open for the audience to decide.

I'd like to see them make a Billy the Kid movie on the lines of Unforgiven, my second favorite western of all times, and possibly the most realistic westerns made.
No stand offs and quick draw holly wooded up fake stuff.

Looks like someone needs to get regulated.

What more could you ask for?

Bob Dylan as Alias...Oh, wait.

"I'd rather drink turpentine and piss on a brushfire."

Love that line, and this thread just made me think of it.

I don't know if that works

There's an element of romance to BTK's story.

I effing love unforgiven though

I'll say this for the brushy bill tale

Billy the kid was an escape artist, so I could believe him faking his death unwittingly. The claimant could dislocate his thumb making his hand smaller than his wrist, he had knife and bullet wounds all over his body supposedly consistent with some wounds BTK sustained

Regardless if he was telling the truth, he lived through some real shite

This is actually a good idea IMO. I feel like it's been a while since a good western came out and people love vigilante type justice.

As I said, I wouldn't care how they tell the ending, as long as they keep the Hollywood fakness out.
Let Billy be killed-it's PROBABLY what happened
Let Billy escape-it's what the people want to see
Leave the ending open- it makes great discussion such as "did she drop it on purpose "(she didn't BTW)

As to his escapes, it's been said he could get out of handcuffs easily, and it's also been said he had help multiple times breaking out.
Both could be true to some extent.
