Watching the show and they just panned back while going to commercial.
There looked to only be about 150 people there. Has it always been like that? Seems small.

I went to a taping in 2015. There are probably 300-350 people in the studio audience. It's not very big.

A lot of those studios are smaller than they seem on TV, sometimes deliberately so. According to Conan, his show is taped in a giant airplane hangar at Warner Bros. but he had his set deliberately ensconced in one little sliver of it because he thinks the intimacy works better for comedy in a live setting. I remember how huge his Tonight Show stage was and it did just feel weird how far apart everybody was from each other and the audience.

Yeah I did the studio tour at 30 Rock a while back, and the audience sizes for late night and SNL are way smaller than they appear on TV. They explained that they use camera angles to make it appear larger on tv

Fallon likes the smaller crowd in New York. He decided to keep his studio he used in 30 Rock for Late Night.

If you go to Colbert, it's a much larger studio.

Went to Letterman in 2010. Even the Ed Sullivan tehtaer which looks huge on TV was ecwteemly tiny and intimate. We were on row 2 and I could've almost touched Paul and the band.

You always hear stand up comedians talk about how they love low ceilings and smallish theaters because of the energy they get from yeh crowd.
