EXCLUSIVE: Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is set to star with Tom Hardy in 77 Blackout, a crime thriller set on the night when the city that never sleeps lost power and plunged into chaos and lawlessness. Cary Joji Fukunaga is directing. Fresh from the Oppenheimer Best Picture Oscar, Charles Roven is producing along with Madison Weireter for Atlas Entertainment, and William Green and Aaron Ginsburg for The Cut.
In 1977, five rogue police officers formulate a plan to rob three criminal strongholds – the Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob – all in one night. When a blackout sweeps the city the night of the robbery, the crew is forced to navigate a hellish landscape as years of being overworked and underpaid forces each of them to confront their own morality.
I thought Fukunaga had been canceled, but guess not.

Three Masters of the Air production sources claimed Fukunaga showed interest in at least three young women in the cast and crew during filming. In another instance, two production sources recalled Fukunaga having two background actresses who were dressed as 1940s prostitutes pose suggestively as he took photos of them. “It was way past the line,” one source said. “There’s no sort of argument … that it is OK in any way. It’s an absolute, clear-cut abuse of power.” (Fukunaga admitted he took pictures of the women, but his attorney said he takes photos of everyone on his sets and “[t]o imply anything improper about doing so is false and defamatory.”)
If that is the worst that Rolling Stonecan come up with, he probably did nothing wrong.
Sounds like a good movie. Hardy and Ali can absolutely act and this seems like a good vehicle for them.

I see nothing wrong here.
