Deadline first reported on this project, which will center on a longtime Naval officer who finally gets to command his own Navy destroyer in World War II. He must fight off his own demons and self-doubts to prove to himself that he belongs in command, while an enemy commander is going through a similar experience. The title of the movie is taken from the name of the ship itself.

Tom Hanks will produce alongside his Playtone Productions partner Gary Goetzman, with the budget said to be in the mid-$30 million range.

ole Tom isn't slowing down a bit

Tom Hanks will next be seen on the big screen reprising his role as Robert Langdon in Inferno, directed by Ron Howard. He also stars in The Circle for director James Ponsoldt, which also stars Emma Watson, which doesn't have a release date set at this time. He is also returning to voice the iconic Woody in Disney Pixar's Toy Story 4, which is set for release on June 15, 2018. No release date or production schedule was announced yet for Greyhound.

I guess we can add boat to the list of transportation methods to avoid at all costs when Tom Hanks is involved.

Captain Phillips already did this for me. Still cant understand why they used to travel around Somalia without at least one guard on board. One guy with a decent rifle and that story ends a lot quicker.

I'm far from a movie insider, but does $30 Mil not seem insanely low for a war piece? I guess this will be almost solely focused on the internal drama as opposed to any real battle focus.

Ugh, why in the world can't we get a good movie about the Destroyers involved in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, some of the toughest, craziest, most badarse individuals to ever command men captained the Destroyers in that conflict. Their stories are beyond epic, almost nonbelievable.

I guess this series has an audience. I'm tempted to stick my head in a screening just to see who goes to those movies.

I've read all the Dan Brown books and think the movies are okay. The books are better, but the movies are far from being one of the worst franchises in recent memory.

Not even close. These movies aren't great, but they aren't terrible.

Inferno the book was fairly fun to read. I'm looking forward to the movie.

Hanks needs to make a submarine movie. Or an Uber Driver movie.

I think Tom has pretty much covered WWII. Perhaps he should move on.

And the Dan Brown books are fantastic. He's not very good with prose, but his stories and research are incredible. And I don't mind Hanks playing Landon. But I wish they had gotten someone less "meh" than Opie to helm the films.

I wouldn't mind a remake of Mister Roberts.
