the acting, writings, story, and characters are all too natch throughout the show. The Wire didn't really break any barriers or reinvent the wheel, but it sure as hell made a TV show that kept you intrigued for five seasons.

What makes it the best TV show of all time though are the story arcs of the first four seasons. The show is always going somewhere, and there are no throwaway episodes or filler. The Wire sucks you in to its world, and the characters that you root for and against don't escape the reality of the brutality of the Baltimore drug scene. There are no fantastical elements to the show and if it was presented as a true story it would be completely believable.

The best part of the show is that you end up having sympathy for some characters regardless if they are a cop, lawyer, drug dealer, politician or crackhead. On the flip side, each one of those types produces someone you want to get shot.

Plus the show has motherfrickin Omar.

Except Breaking Bad, of course.

We must never stop talking about Breaking Bad and The Wire.

Unsolved Mysteries?
Saved By The Bell??
Picket Fences???
Designing Women????

Too many great shows to choose from, and it's really pointless to debate which one is best. Just sit back and enjoy some Golden Girls. Blanche is so wrong but oh so right.

Breaking Bad is the greatest artistic achievement in human history. Except for maybe the Wire.

Breaking Bad is good but it's not as good as The Wire... nothing is.

Just being a little facetious. The greatest show of all time is obviously Inspector Morse.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, this is art. The funny thing is that I was coming on here to start a thread about how great The Wire was and is still. I just finished watching the series again for the umpteenth time. I have been in law enforcement since 1998, when The Wire first came on I worked in a unit almost identical to the Major Crimes Unit in a department and city that mirrors Baltimore in a thousand ways. The Officers in the unit would come to work and we would be amazed at how true to reality the episodes were and continued to be consistently. It is my favorite show of all time right above Breaking Bad but that doesn't mean it has to be everybody's.............but I'm right.

I can name 5 people in NOLA over the last 15 years that are the same character as Omar without the over the top "here comes Omar" stuff. There are people out there who rob drug dealers all the time, of course they all end up the same way usually during a robbery attempt or just some random act of violence.
